Hope is something that people today talk a lot about. They want their hopes and dreams to become realities. We are creatures of hope. Hope is a gift given to us by God our creator. Hope is looked at by some in a negative way because it suggests that people are merely wishing and longing for something they have not attained. But hope plays a most important role in our lives, especially in the life of a child of God. God is the God of hope and faith. Hope is a component of faith. It is a tool you use that reaches for something that you don't see.
In Romans 8:24-25, Paul says, “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeketh, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it” (KJV). Hope says that it can be, while faith says it already is. Without making this complicated, I believe that it is fair to say in order to declare a thing not yet seen with authority (which is faith) one must accept the truth that it is possible...(hope). This is where hope plays its finest role in our lives. Hope and faith work hand in hand. Think of a tiny snowball rolling down hill accumulating more snow as it goes, until it becomes a snow boulder. Hope is the tiny snow ball, and faith is the boulder.
When a man tries to exercise hope without linking it to faith, the end result can only be frustration. If this is not corrected, eventually it brings a person to despair. It takes no work at all to fall into despair, and despair has invited itself and brought ruin to millions of people’s lives around the world for thousands of years. But it takes effort, and the exercising of hope combined with faith in God to crush the devastating affects of despair. People live with despair regularly every day as if it was meant to be a part of normal life. They are living free among the dead. But instead of living free among the dead, they become prisoners of hope. The kind of hope the prophet Zechariah speaks about. "Turn you to the stronghold ye prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee... Zechariah 9:12. A prisoner is one kept confined by another. Wouldn't you rather be a prisoner of hope than to be free among the dead and despairing? Jesus is your hope, regardless of your situation in life. He can handle whatever has befallen you. Give Him your life today, and trust in Him at all times. Situations in life often bring feelings of despair and hopelessness, but we are never without hope!
Read these scriptures concerning the hope we have in Jesus our risen savior, and be overtaken with joy as you see your deep despair being crushed by the loving hand of God because of hope!
